Well, it might work but you would have to do a considerable amount of driving to get enough charge. However with what someone has said about it making drag, it doesn’t have to be one of these massive wind mill turbines you see about but it could lay quite flat and close to the roof of the car, so it wouldn’t necessarily have drag.
Though i do believe it would be a wasted effort.

yes, it will but the limitations or the problem in designing one such turbine is to prevent the direct wind impact on the turbine and the changing speed of the vehicle. The power generation would be limited and will vary quite frequently. It’s not impossible to design and will be worth designing.

it would produce considerably less power than the drag it caused, which would increase fuel use.

so no, i wouldn’t like it.
(It is cool to think about however.

and, as warren said, it’s effectiveness would be very wind dependent.
freeway might be okay.
around town — not so much.
but still, in total, an energy waster.

It would seem that you would have to drive into the wind to receive any power so you would never get where you were going but rather where you went??

Noway. The car would experience more drag. The energy of the wind turbine is far too little to charge the battery that would be fully exhausted in the end.

You could do that, but wind doesn’t provide very much energy.
You could only place relatively small blades on top of a car, and cars take quite a bit of energy to move.

I’m sitting here trying to get my head around the idea of how you could possibly be in a mechanical engineering program and even ask these questions. Am I missing something or does the BS mean what I think it means?

The goof-ball idea of a windmill driving the vehicle it was mounted on was actually given a patent in the 1800s.
